A Young Woman Feeding a Parrot–Caspar Netscher–1666–National Gallery of Art
She lived so long ago
yet feels so present
the distinction fades.
She seems so close
I could almost touch her,
feel the warmth of the sun on her cheek.
The light on her face
illumines her:
The light
soft, luminous
revealing,
resurrects her
from across the centuries
if only for a moment;
captured
like a firefly in a bottle . .
A portrait
frozen in time.
